2008 Winter Hitting League (January 6th - March 2nd)

  • Week #7 - Sundy, March 2nd

    Due to the cancellation of earlier weeks of Hitting League action, there has been a change in the schedule for the final week. There will two 4-team tournaments that will determine the final standings. Team Chewy, Onekema #2, Glen Lake, and Central Lake #2 will start play at 1:00 pm in the 5th place bracket, and St. Francis, Central Lake #1, Plattski, and Onekema #1 will start play at 2:20 pm in the 1st place bracket.

    After Week #7, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams are separated by just a few points, which will make the championship weekend very interesting. St. Francis stayed perfect in 2008 with victory over Team Chewy, 52-33, and will look to repeat as Champions behind 2007 League MVP Justin Wojtkowiak. Week #7 MVP honors are split between Ray Platts of Team Plattski, who only made 6 outs while hitting for 51 points in a losing effort, and Ryan Crawley of Central Lake #1 who hit for 40 points to beat same school rival Central Lake #2, 61-27.

  • Week #6 - Sunday, February 24th

    Raymond Platts of Team Plattski and Justin Wojtkowiak of TC St. Francis share Week #6 MVP honors after an epic battled that ended with TCSF on top, 59-54, to remain undefeated and guarantee themselves a shot at the championship. Fierce battle continues for the #2 seed as Team Chewy will need a victory against TCSF and a Team Plattski loss in Week #7 for a chance at the title. Central Lake #1 and Onekema #1 need both Team Plattski and Team Chewy to lose in Week #7 for a shot to move into second place.

  • Week #5 - Sunday, February 3rd

    Hunter Slade takes home Week #5 MVP honors after hitting for 33 points en route to helping Onekema #1 defeat rival Onekema #2 by a score of 53-38. St. Francis won the showdown with Central Lake #1, 47-42, to stay undefeated, and Team Plattski continued to climb the rankings with a 37-30 victory over Team Chewy. Central Lake #2 got the upset victory over Glen Lake, 36-26, while league MVP candidate Josh Jacklin sat out with an injury.

  • Week #4 - Sunday, January 26th

    Josh Jacklin of Glen Lake and Thomas of Onekema #2 are the Winter Hitting League Week #4 Co-MVPs after scoring 32 and 35 points respectively in a head-to-head matchup. However, it would be Glen Lake who would come out on top, beating Onekema #2 52-45. St. Francis continued their winning streak to remain in first place, beating the hard luck Onekema #1 team 42-37. Onekema #1 has the second highest number of points in the league, but sits in 6th place after a couple of close losses. Team Plattski emerged as a possible contender with a 47-34 win over Central Lake #1 and Team Chewy also snuck into a tie for 2nd place with a 39-15 win over Central Lake #2.

  • Week #3 - Sunday, January 20th

    Justin Wojtkowiak showed why he won the 2007 Winter Hitting League MVP in Week #3, racking up 45 points to help St. Francis beat Glen Lake 67-35 to stay on top of the standings.

  • Week #2 - Sunday, January 13th

    Hunter Slade takes home Week #2 MVP honors after rocking the cage for 39 points in a losing effort to Central Lake #1, who got a 32 point night from Ryan Crawley. Hunter spread the hits around the cage, smacking 3 singles, 4 doubles, 4 triples, and 4 home runs while recording just 7 outs. However, Central Lake #1 proved they are a force to be reckoned with, putting up a Week #2 high 53 points to move to 2-0.

  • Week #1 - Sunday, January 6th

    Week #1 showed that there is some great competition ahead with two teams, the Plattskis and Onekema #1, scoring within 6 points of the defending champions of Traverse City St. Francis. MVP honors for the opening weekend were split between Hunter Slade (O#1) and Justin Wojtokowiak (TCSF), who both collected 32 points for their squads on the way to victory.

2007 Winter Hitting League (January 14th - March 4th)

  • Final Statistics

    St. Francis topped TC WEST #2 by a score of 46-37 despite an Playoff MVP performance from Scott Witkop, who kept his team in the game with a 21 point performance. Before the championship round, five athletes were named to the first ever Academy Hitting League All-Star Team - Brenden Bradfield (St. Francis), Anthony Stewart (TC WEST #2), Scott Witkop (TC WEST #2), Ryan Crawley (Central Lake), and brother Ben and Brant Cole (BBAM), who shared the final honor. St. Francis slugger Justin Wojtkowiak was named the Academy Hitting League MVP. Congratulations to everyone who participated and thanks for a great and exciting season!

  • Week #6

    Glen Lake came out swinging in Week #6 and scored a season high 46 points, but St. Francis was carried by Week #6 MVP Justin Wojtkowiak and came from behind to win 63-46. Wojtkowiak hit for 33 points including 5 home runs. In another big game, TC WEST #2 edged Central Lake 33-32 to slide into the championship game against St. Francis next weekend. Hitting totals for the playoff round will count in the leaderboards, so all individual awards are still up in the air.

  • Week #5

    Anthony Stewart collects Week #5 MVP honors after slugging for 28 points in only 17 at-bats, including 4 home runs, in route to helping his team beat BBAM by a score of 62-39. The win sets up a showdown for second place in the final week of the regular season as TC West #2 plays Central Lake. A victory will almost guarentee TC West #2 a spot in the finals vs. St. Francis, who has continued to roll since Week #1. Another exciting game will be BBAM vs. JoBurg to determine who plays for third place.

  • Week #4

    Week 4 MVP honors go to Ben Cole of team BBAM. Ben was invincible on Sunday, hitting for 44 points including 5 home runs, both of which are single week records for the Hitting League. St. Francis jumped to the top of the standings after starting the season with loss. Several teams now sit at 2 wins and 2 losses and have a good shot at making it to the championship game.

  • Week #3

    St. Francis teammates Justin Wojtkowiak and Brendan Bradfield take home co-MVP honors for Week #3 in route to helping their team explode for 94 points. Bradfield and Wojtkowiak hit for 35 and 33 points - the two highest single game point totals by any players in the Hitting League thus far.

  • Week #2

    Week 2 MVP honors goes to Raymond Platts of team Glen Lake. Raymond hit a home run in a sudden death round between Glen Lake and BBAM after their game ended in a tie. In other action, Central Lake and JoBurg both improved to 2-0 while four others remain knotted in the standings at 1-1.

  • Week #1

    The first week of the hitting league was very successful! BBAM and Team Chewy emerged as early front runners, winning in convincing fashion, while Central Lake squeaked by St. Francis 40-39 and JoBurg nipped TC WEST #2 by a score of 41-37. The Week 1 MVP honors goes to Mark Fila from BBAM who smoked 4 home runs in only 11 at bats.
